Creating Products

There are four ways to create products.

Method 1

Creating an item automatically creates a product

When a designer creates a new item for a project, DesignSmart automatically creates a new product and links it to that item.

For the majority of design firms this will be how most, if not all, of their products will be created. Click here for more information.

Method 2

Manually create products in the Product Library

Products can be added in the Product Library. These products can then be linked to items. Click here for more information.

Method 3

Creating Products via the DesignSmart Companion

When using the Designsmart Companion webextension, designers have the option to save the information to an item (which automatically also creates a product) or saving it as a product (in which case it will not be linked to an item or a project). Click here for more information.

Method 4

Using the Save As feature

Imagine that you have completely filled out the color, finish, dimensions, notes and other attributes for a product that comes in orange. Now you need to specify the same product with the only difference being that the second product comes in purple. Solution: use the Save As feature! Click here for more information.
