Many firms will have hundreds of contacts that they will want imported into DesignSmart. There are two primary ways that DesignSmart can import your contacts.
Importing Contacts from QuickBooksIf your firm uses QuickBooks, DesignSmart will import all of the clients and vendors directly from QuickBooks. The process to do this is explained in the section that covers the Address Book in the QuickBooks section of the guide.
Importing Contacts from ExcelEven if your firm does use QuickBooks, it is possible that your firm has other contacts, such as sales reps, or factory reps, who are not in QuickBooks, but whom you'd like to have in DesignSmart. Or if your firm does not use QuickBooks, you might have clients, vendors, sales reps and other contacts that you would like in DesignSmart. These contacts can be imported into DesignSmart if you send them to Support@TheSmartDesigner.com in an Excel spreadsheet. The format needed for this spreadsheet is explained below.
Excel Format for Importing ContactsThe Excel spreadsheet you send to Support should have the following columns. So First Name should be in one column, Last Name should be in a separate column... You don't need to fill in information for all of the fields for each contact. •First Name •Last Name •Company Name •Phone Number •Relationship (Factory Rep, Sales Rep, Contact, Potential Client - These need to be the same "Relationships" that you set up in System Preferences ) •Website •Street Address •City •State •Zip •Country •Notes (these will go into the "In House" notes that only you and your co-workers will see)
