In 2017, QBO introduced "Automated Sales Tax" (AST) and users at that time had the option to switch to it or remain with the manual method. New users to QBO can only use AST.
Below is the screen you will see when your firm is using AST.
With AST, you only need to enter the states your firm has "nexus". If your firm has only one office or multiple offices in the same state, then you'd only have to enter your state in the list above. Then AST will automatically look up and update sales taxes for you automatically.
How to manage Automated Taxes in DesignSmart
The good news is that with Automated Sales Tax turned on, there is nothing that you need to do.
When you create a new project in DesignSmart, the program will automatically query QBO for the appropriate sales tax rate and set it to the project sales tax rate.
