Training

How long does training take?

Every firm is unique and might want to conduct training differently, but in general we can break down training into these roles:

System Administrator - This person, or persons, will need to participate in all trainings, other than the QB Connector trainings, and watch all videos. This will add up to about 8 hours.

Designers - Typically they will only need to participate in trainings #3 and #4 and watch the corresponding videos. This adds up to about 4 hours.

Bookkeeper - The person will only need to participate in two phone calls of one hour each.

Try to complete training in 1 week

We highly recommend trying to complete training within two weeks. A short, focused training period will ensure users put to use what they learn quickly. If training drags on for more than 1- 2 weeks, then there is the risk of forgetting what was learned resulting in a more problematic implementation.

Let's discuss a training schedule that works for your firm

You know your staff best so we'll work with you to develop a training schedule that fits your firm.

The system administrator will spend approximately 5 hours attending all of the training sessions since they will need to know all aspects of the systems. How much time your designers spend in training will depend on how your firm works. For example, if designers don't issue purchase orders, then they don't need to attend the session on how to create POs and track them. Very few firms have their designers receive and process client deposits, so they won't need to attend the session on client deposits.

Read over the sections Sequenced Training Sessions and Non Sequenced Sessions to get a better understanding of the overall training process, then speak with your assigned Project Manager to develop a training plan that makes sense for your firm.

Selecting your DesignSmart "System Administrator"

Your firm will need to determine who will be your assigned DesignSmart "System Administrator(s)". This is usually limited to one or two persons who have been with the firm for some time and have a good understanding of how the firm operates. They will have access to the restricted "System Preferences" area of the system which is where they set up users as well as various default settings. These persons will participate in all trainings and typically are the resources that other users will turn to first when they have questions and/or support needs.

tip_icon Bear in mind that often the most efficient training is peer-to-peer training. In other words, sometimes the persons who receive training can then train their co-workers using terms and project examples that will help the co-workers grasp the concepts more quickly.
